Teen charged after man 'punched and fell back'

A teenager has been charged with assaulting a man who suffered a serious head injury after he was said to have fallen back on to a pavement when he was punched.

Essex Police said officers were called to Chelmsford High Street just before 23:55 BST on Friday.

They said the victim was taken to hospital, where he remained in a stable condition, and that they also discovered another man was injured during the attack.

An 18-year-old, from Billericay, has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The teenager, arrested shortly after the assault, is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Detectives have continued to urge anyone who has information about the case to contact them.
