A house fire only damaged a bedroom thanks to a door being kept closed and the resident had been alerted by a smoke alarm.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said two crews were sent to Spring Road, Ipswich, after reports of a fire just after 10:00 BST.

The service said firefighters stopped the flames spreading to the roof and praised the person living there for keeping their smoke alarm in working order and closing bedroom doors overnight.

It was believed the fire was caused by an electronic device.
