A police officer in Wakefield was threatened with a machete after an anonymous call led police to a large cannabis farm nearby.

Police found a group of males wearing balaclavas and armed with knives and baseball bats on Thornhill Street at about 22:00 BST on Thursday after a tip-off.

One of the group then threatened the officer with a machete before they fled the scene in two vehicles, a white Ford Transit van and a black car.

West Yorkshire Police subsequently uncovered a "significant" cannabis farm in a nearby property on Thornhill Street.

The white Ford Transit van was later found at the junction of Briar Grove and Belle Vue Road, Wakefield, the force said.

A spokesperson said: "Extensive enquiries are ongoing and if anyone has any information that could assist police in their investigation, they are asked to contact Wakefield District CID."
