A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed at a hotel.

Police were called at about 13:30 BST on Tuesday to The Pear Tree Inn & Country Hotel on Smite Lane in Hindlip, near Worcester, Worcestershire, after a 25-year-old man was attacked at the hotel.

A 31-year-old man was originally arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm but was rearrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody, police said.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, counter-terrorism police in the West Midlands have taken charge of the investigation, the force added.

The 25-year-old man who was attacked was in a stable condition in hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

He was taken to hospital with a chest and hand wound after being attacked at the inn, which was previously used to house asylum seekers.

Assistant Chief Constable Grant Wills said the force did not believe there was a wider risk to the public.

He added a cordon was in place at the Pear Tree Inn with extra officers in the area to carry out enquiries, extra patrols and offer reassurance.
