An urn left in a supermarket shopping trolley has led to an appeal to trace its owner.

Jacob Walsh, 42, of Casselden & Walsh Independent Funeral Directors in Goole, East Yorkshire, said his friend found the urn at the town's Tesco superstore on Tuesday.

He added the brown casket was thought to contain the ashes of a dog, as it had the name Ben written on it, along with the numbers 848679.

Mr Walsh said he would keep the urn "safe and sound" until the owner was found, adding anyone with any information should get in touch.

He said: "It's a bit of a puzzler. I called the number on the urn but it says it is not in circulation, so I'm now stuck about what to do.

"I'm trying to raise as much awareness about it, as the owner must be distressed that they've lost their dearly loved pet's ashes.

"I'll keep hold of it and make sure it is kept safe and sound until someone comes forward."
