Burst water main fixed after disruption
- Published
A burst water pipe that caused disruption in Black Country neighbourhoods earlier this week has been fixed but associated traffic diversions will continue.
The damaged main in Bloxwich on Monday forced a primary school to close and a fireworks event to be cancelled, as well as leaving some homes without water.
South Staffs Water said repairs to the pipe on Stafford Road had been completed on Tuesday morning, and all customers should have supplies restored.
The service provider added that a diversion around Stafford Road, from the junction with Lichfield Road through to Walsall Road, would remain for at least seven days.
Firefighters were called to the burst pipe in the early hours of Monday morning and the water company warned later that day that properties in Bloxwich, Norton Canes, Great Wyrley, and Cannock could lose water supply at times or experience low pressure.
Walsall Council’s fireworks display, which was due to take place at Bloxwich’s King George V Playing Field on Tuesday, was cancelled due to flooding at the park's main entrance.
Landywood Primary School in Great Wyrley, which had to close on Monday as it had no running water, re-opened at 10:30 GMT on Tuesday.
South Staffs Water said customers who had cloudy or discoloured water on Tuesday should run their taps for 20 minutes to help clear it.
The incident was the third of its type for South Staffs Water in the Black Country in recent days, with the water company also tackling burst pipes in Wednesbury and Tipton over the weekend.
Both of these pipes have since been fixed.
