Bolsover District Council said it received reports of people offering to carry out unscheduled roof repairs

People in Shirebrook are being warned against accepting offers of roof repairs on council houses following suspicious activity in the area.

Bolsover District Council said it only carries out repairs "because of a direct report of an issue from a tenant or planned improvements", with workers wearing council or Dragonfly uniforms and carrying ID.

The authority said no tenant would be asked to cover the cost of planned repairs, after reports of workmen offering QR codes for occupants to pay for work.

Residents are advised to contact the council if anyone requests payment or claims to represent the council and repairs have not been confirmed in writing.

Last year, residents in Derbyshire were warned by the county council about two men offering roof repairs in Belper and Heanor.
