The first reports of fires came from Vardon Road, Jessop Road and Canterbury Way.

The flames spread to other vehicles nearby.

No injuries were reported.

Det Con Christopher Jones, from the Stevenage Local Crime Unit, said: “I appreciate the nature of this incident will be concerning to the local community and devastating for the victims, and we are doing all we can to trace those responsible.

“I am urging anyone with information to please come forward."

He appealed for anyone, external who saw people acting suspiciously in the area, or had CCTV or doorbell footage, to contact him.

He also asked anyone whose car was damaged but who had not reported it to the police to get in touch.
