A city hopes to bring the spirit of Glastonbury to its centre by hosting a two-day event with live music, food and drink.

Peterborough Positive will broadcast the world famous music festival on a large screen in St John’s Square, Peterborough, on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June.

The group, which is part of the city centre Business Improvement District, said it wanted to create a festival atmosphere in an intimate setting, with much less mud.

It said the concept of using the screen worked well last summer, when it was used to broadcast the Wimbledon finals.

Pep Cipriano, the chief operating officer at Peterborough Positive, said: “We're looking forward to bringing the energy and excitement of Glastonbury to Peterborough city centre.

"It’s a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the spirit of one of the world's most famous music festivals in an intimate setting and without the mud!

“We’ve worked with businesses in and around St John’s Square to add some additional festival flavour to the weekend and we hope everyone enjoys the experience.”

The entertainment starts at 12:30 BST on 29 June and will run until 20:00 BST.

On 30 June the event will continue from 12:30 until 17:00.
