Three injured in hospital building crash

Police, fire and the ambulance service attended the scene

Two people have been rescued after they were trapped beneath a car which crashed into a temporary building at Torbay Hospital, the fire service said.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the incident at 10:47 GMT on Wednesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said three people were injured in the crash.

"The incident is ongoing but the hospital remains open," the force said.

Public access

The fire service said the driver had been freed from the vehicle when crews arrived but two people were left trapped under the car.

It said fire crews from Torquay and Paignton attended the scene and lifted the car.

"Both casualties are now clear and being assessed by the ambulance service," it said.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust said car park A had been closed due to the incident, adding the access road to the acute medical unit (AMU) was also shut.

“This incident will impact on public access to our on-site parking at the hospital, therefore we ask that patients consider using public transport where possible to attend appointments," the trust said.

"We will directly contact patients if their appointments will be impacted by this incident."
