Volunteers have rescued a missing dog from cliffs at Les Landes in Jersey.

Three-year-old Lily went missing during a walk with her owner Jules Barons late on Thursday.

After searching herself, Ms Barons posted an appeal on social media, and was amazed at the response, as a series of volunteers arrived to help.

Lily was retrieved from a narrow ledge on the side of a cliff after she was spotted by a drone.

Feared the worst

Ms Barons said of the social media appeal: "I knew that there was a dog rescue group, but I had no idea how many people would come forward."

The searchers drew a blank, with Ms Barons fearing the worst.

But when they returned at first light on Friday, one member spotted a tiny scrap of white, nearly 100ft (30m) down the cliff face.

A drone was called into help identify Lily.

'Amazing people'

Fearing that she might fall, the woman inched down to the dog, and managed to lead her to safety.

"They are just an amazing group of people," said Ms Barons.

"To turn out in such numbers late at night, and to keep looking until they found Lily."

Lily is now back home and sleeping off her ordeal.

She will need further vet treatment next week, but for now owners and rescuers are simply celebrating her survival.
