People have been asked to avoid a town centre following a "large" fire.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Sheep Street - between the junctions of Church Lane and Lady's Lane - in Northampton at 05:50 BST.

Nine crews were at the scene, along with two aerial appliances and a water bowser.

Anyone living nearby was asked to keep their windows and doors closed because of the large plume of smoke.

Northamptonshire Police said, external there were also road closures in the Regent Square area, in Broad Street to the junction with Lady's Lane and in Greyfriars to the junction with Wellington Street.
