Tom Grennan to busk for Big Issue magazine

Tom Grennan will be busking in Coventry on 26 September

Singer-songwriter Tom Grennan is set to busk in Coventry in support of the Big Issue magazine.

The 29-year-old, who is also an avid Coventry City FC fan, will perform in his adopted home on 26 September.

The weekly street paper is sold by vendors who are facing homelessness, experiencing poverty, or who have recently become unemployed.

"The Big Issue is an important magazine," Grennan said. "I think it helps a lot of people get back on their feet. It also highlights a lot of the things that are going on in the UK and across other places."

The dedicated Sky Blues supporter, who once offered to pay for a fellow fan to fly from Argentina to Wembley to watch the team's Championship play-off final, has been labelled the "adopted son of the city" by a former Coventry City chairman.

Grennan, who released his new single Higher on Friday, has had two number one albums.

In an interview with the Big Issue, the musician said he could be falling into the trap of making "boring pop".

"I didn't want to do music that was just gonna place me in this box. I wanted to be experimental, and not just doing down-the-line boring pop," he explained.

"I just felt like I was kind of slipping into something that I wasn't in love with. So I was like, well, I need to start making the music that I love."
