Families encouraged to join disability register

Families who have children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) are being encouraged to a join a county's disability register.

The voluntary record, which is a statutory requirement of each local authority, collects information about people up to the age of 25 who have a disability, additional need, or health condition that impacts their daily life.

Warwickshire County Council said the register played a "crucial role" to help understand the specific needs and additional support required by service users.

It added that the more information provided, the more "effective" planning and resource allocation would be.

Interim council leader and portfolio holder for children and families, George Finch, said the register would be a great tool to better understand and highlight the needs of SEND children.

A spokesperson for the council said the registration was quick and easy to use and families could update their information at any time.

Consent may be required from those aged 16-years-old to 18 for parents or carers to register on their behalf.

The council reassured the public that data was solely used for service improvement.
