Three men have been arrested after an aggravated burglary in Berkshire.

Thames Valley Police said two men aged 20 and 25 from Milton Keynes and one aged 28 from London had been arrested after breaking into a home in Halls Road in Reading at about 03:50 GMT on Sunday.

A man, a woman and a child were reported to have been at the property at the time and had called the police while the offenders were still inside.

The force said the man had been attacked and had to receive a hospital treatment for a head injury, but had since been discharged.

Officers said they had chased the offenders who had made off in a light-coloured BMW.

The short pursuit ended in Portland Gardens where the arrests were made.

Det Insp James Jackson said it had been "an extremely frightening experience for the victims".

"Offences like this are rare and I want to reassure the public that we have made three arrests and are conducting a thorough investigation," he said.

He appealed to anyone with information to get in touch with the force.
