A major search operation is under way after a body was reportedly spotted in a North Yorkshire river.

Police were contacted by a member of the public just after 14:00 BST on Monday who said they had seen a person in the fast-flowing water at Ingleton Viaduct.

The police air service, the fire service, underwater search unit and volunteer search and rescue teams are continuing to search the River Greta in the Craven area and downstream towards Lancashire, police said.

Officers said extensive enquiries have been carried out with neighbouring forces for any reported missing people and have also appealed for anyone who is aware of someone not returning home after going to the river to get in touch.
