A councillor from Swansea has pleaded not guilty to an allegation of rape dating back to the early 1990s.

Peter May, 56, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday accused of one charge from between 1991 and 1993.

The defendant spoke in court to confirm his name, address and date of birth, before entering a not guilty plea.

He was released on bail, with conditions not to contact any prosecution witness and to continue living at a specified address.

Mr May, from Finsbury Terrace, Brynmill, Swansea, currently represents the Uplands ward on Swansea council.

A trial date was set for September 2026.
