Man killed and driver critical after country road crash

Police said the one-vehicle accident happened at about 22:50 on Sunday

A 22-year-old man has died after a car he was a passenger in crashed on a country road in Fife.

The black Seat Leon crashed on the B996 near Blairadam, at the junction for the B9097, at about 22:50 on Sunday.

Police said the 22-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene while the 21-year-old driver suffered life-threatening injuries.

A second passenger, aged 20, was also seriously hurt in the incident.

They were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The road was closed for almost 12 hours to allow for crash investigations.

Police said inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Sgt David Farr said: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time.

"I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the crash and witnessed what happened, or has any dashcam footage which could assist, to please get in touch with officers, external."
