Appeal after puppy found on woodland path dies

The RSPCA said the puppy was found on a woodland path next to the River Lune in Lancaster

A puppy found covered in blood in a cage on a woodland path has died, sparking an appeal by the RSPCA.
The dog, thought to be an eight to ten-week-old American Bulldog, was discovered with teeth marks and puncture wounds to the top of her head, suspected jaw fractures and her eyes were almost completely swollen shut, the charity said.
Inspectors said some of the injuries could have been inflicted deliberately and others may have been caused by another dog but they were so severe she had to be put to sleep.
"It was absolutely heartbreaking to see the condition this little girl was in," said RSPCA deputy chief inspector Amy Mcintosh.
The charity said the puppy was found next to the River Lune near Mainway, Lancaster, at 18:00 BST on 17 October.
"She was found in a large cage, so if the person or persons responsible had walked any distance carrying her in that, it's possible they might have been seen," Ms Mcintosh said.
"It's been a very upsetting incident for all concerned and we'd appeal to anyone who recognises this dog or can help our inquiry to get in touch."
