A boy has appeared in court charged with attempted murder and possession of a samurai sword after a 13-year-old girl was stabbed.

The girl was discovered with lacerations to her neck, abdomen, chest and back near the A63 in Hessle at about 06:50 GMT on Friday 1 November.

Humberside Police said the injured girl was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The 14-year-old boy, who can not be named, was remanded into custody following his appearance at Hull Magistrates' Court earlier and will next appear at Hull Crown Court on Friday 8 November.

Five other teenagers were arrested in a wooded area near North Ferriby in connection with the incident on Friday.

Three boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, and two girls, aged 14 and 15, have since been released on police bail.
