Plans for a drive-through restaurant and takeaway at a Dumfries retail park are in line for approval.

It would be built on a vacant plot of land at the Peel Centre site on the town's Lockerbie Road.

A report to councillors said no specific occupier had been identified but there was market interest in such a development.

Concerns have been raised about the traffic impact and disturbance to nearby residents but planning officers have recommended the proposals get the green light.

The Peel Centre sits on the outskirts of Dumfries and is next to a Tesco supermarket.

It has historically only offered retail units but plans for a drive-through coffee shop were recently approved on one part of the site.

Now a second food offering could be in the pipeline.

Some nearby residents have lodged opposition to the plans but they are being recommended for approval.

A planning report concluded that the development would be complimentary to the existing retail park and could go ahead subject to conditions.
