Man dies in house fire in Caithness

A man has died in a house fire in Wick in Caithness.

Firefighters were called to the property in West Banks Terrace just before 13:00 on Wednesday.

Police said a man's body was found after the fire was extinguished.

A spokesperson said: "His death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said two appliances were sent to the incident.

Area commander Michael Humphreys said: "Sadly, one man was found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts remain with all those affected at this difficult time.

"A joint investigation between Police Scotland and SFRS will be carried out in due course."
