Man to stand trial after denying assault charge

A 27-year-old man accused of assaulting a woman and animal cruelty charges, has appeared in court.

Alex Thomas, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count of assault by beating, in relation to an incident in Weston-super-Mare on 27 May.

A second charge, allegedly committed on the same day, relates to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog that died after a fall from height, police said.

Mr Thomas pleaded not guilty to one count of assault by beating at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He is due to attend a trial at North Somerset Crown Court, starting on 7 March 2025.
