Pair jailed for 'viciously assaulting' man in bar

Two men have been jailed over a "sustained attack" in a city centre bar that left a man seriously injured.

A jury heard he was taken to hospital with a bleed on the brain and fractures to his spine and face after a fight at Bar 42 in Broadway, Peterborough on 20 July, while a second man was left with minor facial injuries.

Lulzim Sinimati, 27, and Fatos Kertolli, 36, both from Millfield claimed they acted in self-defence but were found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and affray.

Kertolli was jailed for five-and-a-half years at Cambridge Crown Court, while Sinimati was sentenced to four-and-a-half years.

Both men have also been made subject of 10-year restraining orders prohibiting them from contacting the victims.

Det Con Dylan Lenton from Cambridgeshire Police said: "Both men claimed they acted in self-defence, however footage showed them viciously assaulting one victim in a sustained attack.

"The injuries they caused were so severe, at one point it was thought the victim wouldn't survive.

"He has since made a recovery, although effects of the trauma he suffered to his brain will stay with him forever."
