Upgrade work which formed a £1.1m project at a reservoir in Guernsey has been completed.

Guernsey Water said the work at its largest treated water service reservoir in Forest Road was the most extensive in the site's 60-year history.

The company said 13m litres (2.8m gallons) of water was drained from the tank to allow workmen to clean and inspect the structure before patch repairs were carried out during the near year-long project.

Green membrane which covered the site's roof was replaced with a stronger covering, along with new rainwater drainage which includes a collection pond, it added.

Guernsey Water said the work helped future-proof the "critical asset" site which provided clean drinking water to about 10,000 customers.

It added the work had been due to take place at a later date, but was moved forward after routine water testing showed a single failure in November 2024.

Carl Falla, the company's capital delivery manager, said: "Although undertaking this work in 2025 wasn't part of the plan, we moved swiftly to reorder the programme and ensured the tank was returned to service as quickly and safely as possible."

Mr Falla said the project was part of a wider £6m investment scheme being done in 2025 which has included replacing manhole covers and installing new ring mains.
