Police have arrested a man suspected of being the owner of an XL Bully dog that killed a man in his own home.
The arrest came following the death of David Daintree, 53, who was mauled to death in Ashley Court, Accrington, on 20 August.
Lancashire Police said a 33-year-old man from the town had held on suspicion of "being the owner / person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death".
It is illegal under the Dangerous Dogs Act to "rehome, sell or transfer ownership, external" of XL Bully dogs and it is understood Mr Daintree had only recently taken in the dog.
'Missed by so many'
Lancashire Police added that the man was arrested on suspicion of an unrelated assault and breach of bail, and has been recalled to prison.
Neighbours said Mr Daintree and another man had been trying to separate two dogs that had been fighting shortly before the attack occurred.
In a tribute, his daughter Joanne said: "Dad was a man who had so much love to give he didn’t know what to do with it."
She said he was "a brilliant grandad, dad, husband and he will be missed by so many people".
