A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a 41-year-old woman at a city centre property.

Emergency services had responded to concerns for the welfare of a woman on Canal Street, Chester, at just after 12:20 BST on Sunday, Cheshire Police said.

Paramedics attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said a 57-year-old man had been arrested and remained in custody for questioning.

Cheshire Police said officers believed this was "an isolated incident".

"A scene is currently in place and Canal Street is closed as officers conduct enquiries into the full circumstances," it added.
