Council considers turning tourist centre into cafe

The Tourist Information Centre on Pier Approach opened in 2016

Bournemouth's Tourist Information Centre could be relocated and the existing seafront building turned into a cafe, if plans are approved.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said the proposal was part of efforts "to maximise the potential of all council-owned commercial assets".
A planning application seeks to change the building's use to a takeaway "for the sale of hot and cold food, ice cream and paninis".
More than 20 neighbours have so far objected to the plans. A consultation ends on 20 November.
The purpose-built TIC opened on Pier Approach nine years ago after relocating from Westover Road.
The council has not said where its replacement could be located.

BCP's leisure and commercial operations councillor, Richard Herrett, said: "As part of our wider strategy to maximise the potential of all council-owned commercial assets, a planning application has been submitted to enable a potential change of use for the current Bournemouth Tourist Information Centre (TIC).
"Should the application be supported and the project proceeds, we are committed to ensuring that the TIC continues to operate from an alternative local facility nearby.
"We remain focused on maintaining a strong visitor offer for Bournemouth while also delivering best value for residents."
Objectors to the cafe proposal questioned the need for another food outlet, arguing it was more important to have a tourist information facility in a prominent location.
Some said it was a vital point for people needing assistance and for lost children, while others argued that the change would be an unnecessary expense.
The previous TIC in Westover Road was converted into a pizza restaurant in 2016.
