A man has been killed in a crash involving a lorry and a pick-up on the A7 in the south of Scotland.

Emergency services were sent to the scene a few miles north of Langholm at about 11:35 on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old driver of a green Toyota Hilux was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger - a 55-year-old man - was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the white Scania lorry involved was not injured. The road was closed for about 12 hours and police have appealed for witnesses.

Sgt Colin Ramage said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died in this crash, as well as the man who suffered serious injuries.

"We're carrying out extensive inquiries to establish exactly what happened and I'd appeal to anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward."
