Chief fire officer announces plan to retire

The chief fire officer of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) has announced he plans to retire.
Gavin Tomlinson has said he will leave the role in spring 2025, after a career of more than 30 years as a firefighter.
Mr Tomlinson, who became chief fire officer in 2019, said it was the right time to hand over to a successor with "new ideas and a fresh perspective" to lead the service.
A recruitment process has been launched to find his replacement.
Mr Tomlinson, who stepped away from the role in March after he was diagnosed with a health condition, said: "Over my 30-year career, I have been continually impressed by the dedication and professionalism shown by all the employees of DFRS - responding to emergency incidents, working to prevent them, and adapting to change.
"It is with change in mind that I know spring 2025 is the right time for me to retire and hand the service over to a new chief fire officer."
The deadline for applications for the role, which has a £178,016 annual salary, is 28 October.
