Boston United officials say they are delighted work on a new stand and sports hub will now begin

Work is due to start on the construction of a new South Stand and sports hub at Boston United Football Club's ground.

Chairman David Newton said a government funding agreement contributing to the work had been officially signed, with preliminary works on foundations and drainage due to begin in the next few weeks.

The erection of the main steel frame was planned to start before Christmas, he told shareholders at the club's annual general meeting on Thursday.

"We thank everyone who has worked to make this happen," he added.

"It has been a long journey, but I am delighted that the last piece of the jigsaw will be in place soon for the benefit of the club, the Community Foundation and the local community," he said.

Mr Newton said the funding would be managed via the Boston Partnership Fund and said the stadium would remain open during construction works, but urged fans to keep to "non-construction" areas.

"We will communicate regularly about any traffic restrictions that may be imposed from time to time. The stadium will be open for all fixtures as usual," he added.
