West Sussex residents are being encouraged to take a short survey

Residents in West Sussex are being asked for their views on pharmacy services, to help understand how the county's communities use them.

The public survey is being run by West Sussex County Council and will be open for submissions, external until midnight on Monday, 3 March.

Councillor Bob Lanzer, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said the pharmaceutical needs assessment, which takes place every three years, is an "important tool to identify needs for pharmaceutical services in West Sussex".

The services include high street pharmacies, online or mail order pharmacies, and suppliers of items such as stoma bags, wound dressings, compression garments, and other medical aids.

Feedback will help inform the draft West Sussex Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, which the county council said it would seek further public comment on later this year.

The West Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board is required to produce a report used by NHS England, local authorities and local NHS systems, to plan and deliver pharmaceutical services across the county.

It includes representatives from the county council, the NHS, district and borough councils, and the voluntary and community sector.

The county council said there were currently 143 community pharmacies, 12 dispensing GPs, five dispensing appliance contractors, and three distance-selling pharmacies.

Lanzer said: "I really encourage our residents to take this short survey, which will inform the development of our draft assessment.

"The views from our residents are greatly valued."
