Festive Santas attempt to break record on ice rink
- Published
Organisers of a festive ice rink have attempted to set a new world record for the greatest number of Santas on a rink at the same time.
The Somerset Clarks Village shopping outlet in Street held an event on Thursday evening which aimed to get more than 142 "skating Santas" on the ice simultaneously.
It is believed that a total of 157 Santas joined the rink through the evening but the team will have to wait for confirmation of a new record.
Chris Davis, centre director of Clarks Village, said: "It's not an official record just yet, but we do believe we've beaten the most amount of Santas on ice at any one time."
"Previously, it was 142 people and we think we've got just over 157," he continued.
Mr Davis added: “The festive ice rink at Clarks Village has proved to be enormously popular and for its third year we wanted a grand celebration to welcome its return."
Mandy is one of the people who joined in on the challenge.
She said: "We love it. Ice skating makes it even better, and the twinkling lights."
"My boys are just obsessed with Christmas," one mum told the BBC.
"So I thought it was a really fun time to come down and let them see all the Santas.
The ice skating rink will stay open until the first week of January.
