Celebrations to mark £12m market square makeover

A centuries-old shopping hub is hosting a weekend of free entertainment to officially celebrate its £12m new look.
The revitalised Market Square in Northampton welcomed back customers in September after 18 months of work to install new paving, bespoke fixed stalls, lighting, seating and trees.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be live music, illusion shows, circus workshops and a host of other activities designed to entertain the whole family.
"This is one of the biggest open-air market places in Europe and it's really important that we capitalise on what we have got and bring it to life on a regular basis," said Mark Mullen, from Northampton Business Improvement District (BID).
'Sense of pride'
"It is a significantly different place, and it looks phenomenal.
"Everyone around the town wants it to be success, and that's what today really encapsulates.
"You can feel the sense of pride as people are taking a walk around - it's putting Northampton back on the map.
Among the attractions, a main stage is "showcasing top local talent" across the weekend, according to West Northamptonshire Council, with artists and DJs curated by BBC Introducing and Northampton Music Festival.
"If you can, come and enjoy the celebration at the start of a new chapter for Northampton," added Mr Mullen.
