Tributes have been paid to a Lancashire man who was killed when a tree fell on to his van during Storm Darragh.

He has been named locally as Paul Fiddler, a football coach at Lytham Town FC.

Mr Fiddler, who was in his 40s, died at the scene after the tree fell on his Citroen van on the A59 in Longton at about 09:00 GMT on Saturday.

On their Facebook page, the club described him as a "legend" and added he was "well loved" and a "true friend".

The club said: "We would like to take the time to remember a Lytham Town FC legend Paul Fiddler.

"A well loved coach, football player, gaffer but most of all a true friend.

"Paul, thank you for everything mate. Our thoughts are with the Lytham Town lads, his friends and family at this time.

"Rest in Peace Paul. We will miss you."

Lancashire Police has appealed for anyone who saw the incident or has any dashcam or mobile phone footage to get in touch with the force.

Another man died in the Erdington area of Birmingham after a tree fell and hit his car just after 15:00 on Saturday.

Tens of thousands of homes remain without power and flood warnings continue in the wake of Storm Darragh which brought gusts of more than 90 mph and travel disruption.

Train operators have warned disruption is set to continue on the rail network.

Across England and Wales, 50 flood warnings remain in force because of recent heavy rain from the storm, although the weather is expected to be mostly dry.
