A large heath fire sparked a response from multiple crews and 15 fire engines as they battled to prevent it spreading to nearby homes.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the 14-acre wildfire off Alder Road in Poole at 14:56 BST on Sunday.

Firefighters travelled from across the county to stop the spread of the blaze which involved grass and trees, covering an area the size of approximately nine football pitches.

It was brought under control on Sunday evening and Dorset Police said it is liaising with the fire service to establish the cause.

One crew from Redhill Park returned to the site on Monday morning to dampen down hotspots.

It comes after firefighters from 17 fire services spent six days tackling a fire at Holt Heath earlier this month.

The fire service said that had been started deliberately and had warned people in the area to not to light barbecues and campfires on open land.
