Two people have been taken to hospital after a chemical incident in a hotel spa, a fire service has said.

Firefighters were called to the Randolph Hotel, in Oxford, after an alarm was activated at just after 13:00 BST on Thursday.

South Central Ambulance Service said the two people had experienced breathing difficulties and were treated for chemical exposure at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Staff and guests were briefly evacuated before the hotel reopened at around 15:30, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

In 2015 a large fire ripped through three of its floors, and the hotel subsequently underwent a £6.5m renovation.

The 150-year-old gothic building was regularly featured in the TV series Inspector Morse.
