A man has died after a car and a lorry collided on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire.

Police said the crash involved a blue Suzuki hatchback and blue Scania lorry, both travelling in the same direction.

It happened at junction 51 near Leeming Bar on the northbound carriageway at 22:43 BST on Friday.

Officers said the driver of the Suzuki was pronounced dead at the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the road was closed for several hours to allow investigation work and enable the vehicles to be recovered.

Anyone who witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision, or who has any relevant dashcam footage, has been asked to contact the force.
