New college campus a first for seaside town

Skegness College is the town's first purpose-built vocational college

A new £14m college campus opened its doors to students earlier.
Skegness College, on Wainfleet Road, is the Lincolnshire town's first purpose-built vocational college and part of the TEC Partnership.
The campus is located at the Skegness Gateway development, which also includes new homes and industrial space.
Plumbing student Jaydon, who was the first to step through the doors, said: "This is a spectacular new campus. I'm excited to learn in the new workshop. It's nice to see how the college has turned out."

According to the college, the new campus offers facilities for vocational learning, including a care flat and hospital ward, as well as a hairdressing and beauty salon.
It also includes motor vehicle, plumbing, electrical and construction workshops, as well as business IT suites.
Morag Moore, campus director, said: "Seeing the awe on their [students] faces as they walk through our new campus and take in their new learning environments has been a joy."
She said it had been an "incredible journey" to opening the campus and thanked everyone involved.

The campus has benefited from the government-funded Connected Coast Town Deal.
Chris Baron, chairman of Connected Coast, which is a funding organisation for Mablethorpe and Skegness, said: "We know that the new college is going to make a big impact in the town, allowing learners to access a diverse range of education and training opportunities in this modern and well-equipped facility."
