Train services between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa have been disrupted after inspectors found a fault with a road over a rail bridge.
Great Western Railway said some services were cancelled after a safety inspection of the track in Cheltenham found a "possible defect".
Trains between Gloucester and Worcester could be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes, or revised, the rail operator said.
Ticket holders can use selected Stagecoach bus routes between Cheltenham and Gloucester.
A Great Western Railway spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to customers impacted by delays and cancellations between Gloucester and Worcester Foregate Street this morning.
“It follows an inspection of the track just outside Cheltenham Spa after reports of damage to a bridge.
“Train services between Gloucester and Worcester Foregate Street via Cheltenham Spa and Worcester Shrub Hill were impacted from around 08:00 BST and the line was cleared to reopen at around 09:30."
