Hull will once again become a film set as scenes for a new Bollywood film are shot across the city centre.

Dastaar is set in the 1980s and is a "a tale of courage, faith, and identity", the city council said.

It is the first Bollywood production to be partly filmed in the city, with a council stating it is "fantastic to have yet another film company choosing to bring their production to Hull".

Filming will take place at 16 sites, including High Street, Prince Street and Dagger Lane from 16 November to 9 December.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: "The council's reputation as a professional and efficient team to work with precedes us now and we're excited to see something completely new brought to the city centre."

Residents and businesses affected by the filming will be informed of the time and location of filming, the council said.

Manjot Singh Bajwa, director of Hotshot Production Limited, said: "We're delighted to be making our newest production in Hull as it's such a vibrant filming location.

"We are very much looking forward to bringing Bollywood to the city's streets."

Other films and TV shows filmed in Hull include Enola Holmes 2, The Crown, Blitz, The Extraordinary Life of David Copperfield and A Royal Night Out.

Roads used for the latest shoot will remain open but will have temporary closure notices in place.

  • 20/21 November – High Street

  • 22 November – Parliament Street, Whitefriargate
