City's 'rich and vibrant history' to go on display

The local history fair returns to Wolverhampton City Archives in October

A showcase of what makes Wolverhampton a "vibrant and historically rich place" takes place in the city next month.

Societies, museums and heritage groups including the Wednesfield Burial Ground project and West Midlands Police Museum will set up their stalls at the Local History Fair, held at the city archives in the Molyneux Hotel building, on 11 Oct.

There will also be a special exhibition for October's Black History Month, whcich will elebrating the achievements of the city's Black communities.

Jeszemma Howl, the city council's cabinet member for governance and digital, said the event would appeal to both "seasoned researchers" and people curious about the city's past.

"The Local History Fair is a chance for people of all ages to come together to explore the past, connect with local heritage groups, and discover the stories that make Wolverhampton such a vibrant and historically rich place," she added.

Other exhibitors include Willenhall History Society, The Arts Society, Wolverhampton Hospitals Heritage Collection, The Wolverhampton Society, The Wolves Museum, and Midland Ancestors.

The event will be open between 10:00 and 16:00 BST and a £5 entrance fee applies for adults, £2.50 for children.

The Friends of the Archives will sell refreshments for a small charge.
