Soldiers are due to embark on a two-day march to raise money for a military charity and to honour their forebears.

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment will march through the night, over the course of 48 hours, between Northampton and Rutland.

Money raised will go to The Royal Anglian Regiment Charity which provides funds for serving or former members in times of hardship.

Event organiser Cpl Max Demonte said they hoped to raise about £2,000 to help the charity continue to be there for soldiers "for life".

'Fiercely proud'

The event will also honour the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot - a predecessor of the Northamptonshire Company of the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment.

Each soldier will be carrying 48lbs (22kg) of kit and will march through the night – only stopping for food.

They will depart All Saints Church in Northampton at 10:00 GMT and will travel to Kendrew Barracks in Cottesmore, Rutland,

Pte Aaron Biddle joined the Royal Anglian Regiment three years ago and said it would be "great to see people come along to wave".

"Coming from Northampton, I am proud to honour our Northampton predecessors," he said.

"The Battalion is fiercely proud of its regimental history and has strong family traditions."
