Search over after reports person swept off rocks

Rescue crews resumed their searches on Sunday morning

A sea search for someone said to have been swept from rocks while fishing has been stood down.

HM Coastguard coordinated the response after an incident was reported at Trearddur Bay, Anglesey, on Saturday.

A helicopter and RNLI lifeboats were involved in the search, which resumed at first light on Sunday but is now over after no one was found.

Holyhead, Moelfre and Rhosneigr coastguard rescue teams were also called out along with Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Police.

On Saturday, police asked people to avoid the area, saying their presence was "impeding" the operation

The coastguard said an "extensive" search was carried out in rough seas and strong winds.

Andy Hodgson, of Trearddur Bay lifeboat station, confirmed crews were called at 19:05 BST on Saturday to reports "someone had been swept off rocks while fishing".

"Crews from both our inshore lifeboats searched until midnight, and began searching again at first light today, around 05:30.

On Saturday evening, police said there was a "serious police incident currently ongoing" at Ravens Point, Trearddur Bay.

"Members of the public are politely requested to leave/not to attend the area, as their presence is impeding on the operation there," the force posted on Twitter.
