Cheshire Police is piloting a new initiative where residents can report illegal parking problems online.

It is set to be launched in Crewe in January and is being codenamed Operation Park Safe.

People will be able to upload photos and videos to the police website, external and these will then be assessed and handled by traffic officers.

Police said minor obstructions or issues would be allocated to a local PCSO or beat officer to deal with.

If the trial is successful, the programme could be rolled out across the county.

Sgt Russell Sime said: “We know that unsafe parking can cause a real nuisance and danger to members of the public.

“But we cannot be everywhere - this initiative relies on the help of active citizens to aid us in making the roads safer.

“However, it is important to note that while we will always try our best to resolve parking issues, there are some offences which do not come under our control.”

He added: “We hope residents will make use of this initiative so we can all work together to make our communities a safer place to live.”
