A man has appeared in court following an alleged hit and run incident in County Donegal.

A pedestrian in his 60s remains in a critical condition in Dublin's Beaumont Hospital following the alleged incident on Clonmany's Main Street shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Kevin Grant appeared before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Monday evening.

The 36-year-old, of Páirc Mór, Buncrana, faces eight charges.

They include endangerment, dangerous driving, refusing to give information and refusing to give a sample - as well as three charges under the Road Traffic Act connected with an alleged hit-and-run incident.

Detective Garda Sergeant Killian Callaghan told the court that Gardaí (Irish police) objected to bail on a number of grounds.

He said the defendant made no reply when charged with the offences.

Judge Ciaran Liddy granted bail under a number of conditions, including that the defendant sign on at Buncrana Garda Station on Saturdays and Sundays.

He was remanded on bail to appear at Letterkenny District Court on Thursday, 16 May.
