A Lincolnshire town will be holding its first Africa Day to celebrate the continent's culture.

The event will be held at Freeman Street Market in Grimsby on 25 May and is hosted by The Health Gospel CIC, a wellbeing charity for the black and ethnic minority community.

Dr Idorenyin Charles, CEO of The Health Gospel, said she hopes the occasion will build a "community spirit" in the county.

African art, music, fashion, food and dance will all be showcased during the celebration.

The event will be held between 11:00 and 17:00 BST, with Afrobeat music continuing into the evening.

Dr Charles said: "It's a day to commemorate the history in 1963 when African nations came together to form the African Union.

"It's about celebrating the successes and progresses of the continent of Africa.

"We are inviting people all around the Humber and Lincolnshire area."

She added: "We want people to understand more about the culture and want to build a community spirit."

Dr Charles said the vision of The Health Gospel is to see an "enlightened black minority ethnicity community living in a state of wellness."
