A weekly market returns to Ramsgate on Friday after more than three years of closure.

The market will be held every Friday between 09:00 and 15:00 BST in its original location along Ramsgate High Street, Queen Street and King Street.

Thanet District Council said the market closed in October 2020, following the withdrawal of the previous operator.

A new operator has since been appointed and will be responsible for managing the market on behalf of the council, including choosing traders and setting stallholder fees.

Councillor Ruth Duckworth, cabinet member for regeneration and growth at the council, said: “We recognise the importance of having a weekly market and we are delighted that Ramsgate Market is set to reopen.

"Local people have been keen to see the market return for a long time. I hope that they will come along to help make its return a success."

She said she was "confident" the market would attract more shoppers to the town centre, helping businesses to thrive and "providing an exciting new opportunity for traders".
