Leicestershire Police is investigating "linked" incidents in Oakham

A woman fended off a man who tried to steal her car in Rutland in one of three "linked" incidents in the county.

In the early hours of Sunday, a woman in a car in Station Road, Oakham, was targeted by the man, but she resisted and the suspect left, police said.

Leicestershire Police is linking the incident to another failed car theft, which occurred a few minutes later in Melton Road, and a failed break-in at a clothes shop in the High Street the previous night.

Police added the attempted car thefts were carried out by a lone man, while three men were said to be involved in the attempted shop burglary.

Following the failed break-in at the shop, two suspects left in a white van, with a third running away on foot towards Oakham railway station, the force said.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information have been asked to contact police.
