New 'central travel hub' could open in town

Plans for a £300,000 new "central travel hub" have been announced.
Gloucestershire County Council wants to turn Merrywalks, in Stroud, into a "transport interchange" with new bus shelters and real-time passenger displays.
A consultation has opened that allows the public to give their opinions on the proposals, which also include a bike repair station, electric vehicle parking and parcel collection.
Stroud Town Council said the changes will improve the "overall experience for our residents, workers and visitors relying on transit".
It will be partly funded by the county council and also stood up with money from developers handed to Stroud district and town councils.
Councillor Philip Robinson, the county council's cabinet member for buses, said: “These improvements will transform Merrywalks transport hub into a vibrant and well-used centre to help people make their journeys around the county."
The consultation is open until 9 September, and other planned improvements include CCTV and lighting.
Helen Bojaniwska, Stroud Town Council CEO and town clerk, said: "This revitalised hub will vastly improve accessibility and the overall experience for our residents, workers and visitors relying on transit in Stroud.
"We encourage the public to participate in the design consultation to ensure the final project meets local needs."
